Kostas, thanks for visiting our blog and leaving a nice comment. I remember that you also left a nice comment at Christmas time.So I just want to say thank you!

I think I landed at the Thessaloniki Airport in 1973 when returning to Frankfurt, Germany from a spring vacation spent in Greece touring Athens, Crete, Rhodes and Mikonos. At the time I was a U.S. DOD teacher in Frankfurt teaching American dependent students.

Anyway I just want to say that I loved Greece! I remember watching the Greek Good Friday procession down from the top of this mountain in Athens. There was a Greek Orthodox Catholic Church on top of the mountain and the people were coming down the mountain in the dark with lighted candles. I could see it from my hotel balcony in downtown Athens. It was very moving. I also can remember seeing lamb being roasted on the spit in the countryside and all the Easter breads baked with dyed red eggs in the bakery windows in Athens. Very beautiful. Much later I tried making that Greek Easter bread from a Greek cookbook.

Beautiful setting, I love the large vine on the building.
